Vanessa Bruno | A Gallic flirt

Vanessa Bruno | A Gallic flirt

Whatever the inspiration for a season, Vanessa Bruno will turn it into fully Parisian fare of easy choices and smart daywear. For fall, a British theme could easily be spotted in her material choices — lodens, velvets and Harris tweeds — as well as the palette of russet, browns and vibrant floral tones lifted from the English countryside.

The collection evoked no one better than a woman of the landed gentry, throwing on a silk blouse, belting trousers several sizes too big, adding a thick knit sweater and sensible footwear to tend her garden — as comfortable as it is unwittingly chic. A dash of men’s wear was evident on printed silk pajamas, a tweed parka or a cummerbund belt on straight trousers while dresses — an emerald-green, long-sleeve sequined number in particular — revealed that the Gallic flirt was never far away.

While the references kept shuttling between the two countries, the overall effect skewed toward universality. Case in point: a lavaliere blouse with velvet trousers, topped with a cape, that would work anywhere, Paris or London, town or country.
